Residential Support Worker- Children’s Home - Sefton

 

Salary: £13.40 per hour (unqualified) | £14.00 per hour (qualified)
Sleep-ins: £60 per sleep-in
Location: Sefton, Merseyside
Service: 4-bed Children’s Residential Home (EBD)

Join Our Team

At Progressive Independence, our Residential Support Workers provide high-quality care and support within our 4-bed children’s home in Sefton, supporting children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).

You will play a vital role in creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where children feel valued, understood, and supported. Our approach is trauma-informed and child-centred, focusing on building strong relationships and helping children develop resilience, independence, and positive life outcomes.

What the Role Involves

  • Building consistent, trusting relationships with children 
  • Providing structured day-to-day care within a therapeutic home environment 
  • Supporting children to regulate emotions and manage behaviours positively 
  • Promoting education, routines, and engagement in activities 
  • Developing independence skills (cooking, budgeting, personal care) 
  • Safeguarding children in line with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted standards 
  • Contributing to care plans, behaviour support strategies, and risk assessments 
  • Completing daily records, incident reports, and keywork sessions 
  • Supporting children through challenging behaviours using trauma-informed approaches 
  • Maintaining a safe environment through regular health & safety checks 
  • Working flexibly on a rota including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins 

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine passion for working with children with complex needs (EBD) 
  • Resilience, patience, and emotional intelligence 
  • Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations 
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills 
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice (or willingness to learn) 
  • Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce (or willingness to complete within required timeframe) 
  • Previous residential care experience is desirable but not essential

Progressive Independence is recruiting a Senior Residential Support Worker to join our 4-bed children’s home in Sefton (L29), supporting children aged 8–17 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).

This is a hands-on leadership role, where you will lead shifts while actively supporting children day-to-day. You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and structured home environment, ensuring high standards of care and positive outcomes for children.

What the Role Involves

  • Leading shifts and supporting the day-to-day running of the home 
  • Building positive, consistent relationships with children 
  • Providing high-quality, child-centred care and emotional support 
  • Supporting children with routines, education, and personal development 
  • Promoting independence and life skills 
  • Managing and responding to challenging behaviour using trauma-informed approaches 
  • Safeguarding children in line with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted standards 
  • Supporting and guiding staff on shift, modelling best practice

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential) 
  • Experience working within a children’s residential setting 
  • Experience supporting children with EBD and complex needs 
  • Experience leading shifts or supporting staff practice

  • Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations

YouThrive Academy, part of Progressive Independence, is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support children and young people within our alternative provision.

This role focuses on 1:1 and small group support, helping learners with additional needs (including SEND and SEMH) to engage in education, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

You will play a key role in creating a supportive, inclusive, and trauma-informed learning environment.


What the Role Involves


  • Supporting learners on a 1:1 and small group basis 
  • Delivering structured support in line with curriculum plans 
  • Supporting children with SEND and SEMH needs 
  • Promoting engagement, confidence, and independence 
  • Assisting with behaviour using trauma-informed approaches 
  • Supporting learning in functional skills, ASDAN, and vocational pathways 
  • Contributing to lesson preparation and adapting resources 
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff 
  • Supporting a safe and inclusive learning environment 
  • Following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns appropriately 


What We’re Looking For


  • Experience supporting children or young people (SEND / SEMH) 
  • Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching & Learning or equivalent (desirable) 
  • Willingness to complete further qualifications if required 
  • Strong communication and behaviour support skills 
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships 
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach 
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and inclusive practice
